Description: This series consists of a digitized volume of pay records for the ships' crews of the South Carolina Navy from June 1778 to December 1779. Information recorded includes the date, ship's name, crewmember name, rank/position, and amount of pay. In most cases, the left-facing page contains the list of the crew, while the right-facing page contains their signatures indicating that they received the pay. For slaves, the master's signature was entered instead. Please note that a sizable portion of the writing on many pages is obscured or difficult to read due to the fire damage sustained during the New York State LIbrary fire of 1911.
