The original Evans and Cogswell lithograph of early 1861 was given to the repository by Mrs. Edna E. Rounds of Des Moines, Iowa on March 22, 1950. The provenance of the other Evans and Cogswell lithograph with the 1890 inscription is unknown; this copy was found in the repository's old Senate Street building during preparations for the 1988 move to the Archives and History Center on Parklane Rd. The blueprint of the 1865 Michigan "Scroll of Treason" lithograph was given to the repository by Nick Autry of Lexington, S.C., on December 21, 1989. The Sol-Tex Enterprises facsimile of 1988 was purchased at the South Carolina State Museum gift shop and donated to the repository by staff member Charles H. Lesser in 1989.

Scope and Content:
This series consists of the original engrossed and signed Ordinance of Secession of December 20, 1860, and five facsimiles as follows: an original Evans and Cogswell lithograph printed in early 1861; another copy of the Evans and Cogswell lithograph on paper that has apparently browned from acid migration inscribed "Loaned by Mrs. W. D. Simpson, Dec. 20, 1892;" a blueprint of the Michigan 1865 "Scroll of Treason" lithograph; facsimiles printed by R. L. Bryan Co. in 1970 and by Sol-Tex Enterprises in 1988; and a reduced-size photostat.

Location of Originals:
The blueprint of the Michigan 1865 ("Scroll of Treason") lithograph was made from a copy in the Fort Sill Museum, Fort Sill, Okla. Correspondence from Gillett Griswold, Director of the Museum, to J. H. Easterby, October 10, 1957, indicates that they then had an original of this 1865 lithograph though they may now only have a photographic copy. An original at the South Caroliniana Library, University of South Carolina, was borrowed for the repository's 1998 Ordinance of Secession Exhibit.
