Scope and Content:
This series contains lists of state and county officials, both appointed and elected. Elections to the General Assembly are not recorded. Positions include, but are not limited to: constitutional officers (State Treasurer, Secretary of State, etc.), Deputy surveyors, Commissioners of Deeds, Assessors, County Commissioners, magistrates, constables, and county officers. Records may contain the appointee's/elected official's name, title, position, date of appointment/election, district/county, the governing body appointed/elected to, expiration of term, and whether the appointee (in the case of gubernatorial appointments), was confirmed. A database in this series covers the years 1995-2008 and contains eight tables of data: Elected Officials; Gubernatorial Board/Commission Appointments; Magistrates; Department of Natural Resources and State Highway Patrol officers; State Law Enforcement Division Agents; and State Constables and Special Constables. The database is available in its original Microsoft Access 1997-2003 version, as well as an Access 2007 conversion. Exported data tables are available in comma separated value (CSV), spreadsheet, and eXtensible Markup Languange (XML) formats. The data entry forms for each table are represented in Portable Document Format (PDF).

The database in this series is arranged into eight tables. The "Gubernatorial Board/Comm Appts" table is arranged alphabetically by surname of appointee, and the other seven are arranged chronologically by date of appointment/election.
