Scope and Content: This series consists of the hearing transcripts and exhibits of an ad hoc subcommittee of the Judiciary Committee assigned to determine impeachment or other disciplinary action to be taken by the House of Representative against Governor Mark Sanford. The hearings related to his undisclosed absence from the country in June 2008 and other allegations of ethical misconduct. The committee conducted 6 hearings between November 24, 2009 and December 16, 2009. The decision of the committee was against impeachment and to recommend that the General Assembly censure the governor for his conduct. Records include a transcript for each hearing, the exhibits submitted at each hearing, digital audio-visual recordings of each hearing, and the daily journal of the House for January 12 and 13 when the censure resolution was brought before the House. The exhibits include the report of the State Ethics Commission that investigated the allegations prior to the committee's formation.
