Biography or History:
The Board's mission is to administer, coordinate and enforce regulations relating to occupational therapy in South Carolina. This involves the registration of all occupational therapists and occupational therapist assistants. The Board evaluates qualifications of applicants and investigates persons engaged in the practice of occupational therapy in order to protect the public from unauthorized and unqualified practitioners. The Board operates pursuant to Sections 40-36-5, et. seq., and 40-1-1, et. seq., Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, as amended. Created in 1977, the Board remained an independent agency until the Government Restructuring Act of 1993, effective 1994, transferred all independent regulatory agencies under the newly formed Dept. of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation.
