Scope and Content:
This series consists of reports, photographs, maps, correspondence, and other material submitted by the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). The records are generated by federal projects that fall under the review and compliance requirements of the National Historic Preservation Act (Section 106), and by state projects that require permits from the Department of Health and Environmental Control's Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management (DHEC-OCRM, formerly the South Carolina Coastal Council and the South Carolina Water Resources Commission). The information gathered is used by federal and state agencies, including the State Historic Preservation Office, to make sound decisions regarding the future of the historic resources of the state.
