Scope and Content:
This series consists of an audio tape documenting the bicentennial commemoration of the mass meeting held in Charleston on December 3, 1773. This meeting has been widely viewed as the spiritual predecessor of the modern General Assembly. The commemoration begins with a special session of the General Assembly held in the Exchange Building In Charleston. Addresses were given by T. Bradley Morrow, Jr., chairman of the American Revolution Bicentennial Commission, and Governor John West. They were followed by a performance by a local glee club, and a reenactment of the mass meeting by theater students from the College of Charleston. Please note that the portion of the recording containing the reenactment is incomplete and is interrupted by unrelated programming. This was possibly the result of the recording being made on a tape that had been used previously. Recording produced by South Carolina Education Television (SCETV).
