Retired from government. Seeking Veterans ID card. Cant get one because I am not injured or seeking benefits . I am not seeking benefits but Aiken SC, Augusta Ga, and Atlanta Ga all told me that I can't get one unless I want to seek benefits. This is ridiculous. A DD Form 214 is no longer accepted as proof of service. Not just for me, but many veterans who are healthy- why can't we get a regular card? I have been told I should have asked for one in 1978- don't think they had them then. I offered to pay a processing fee so the VA could make money and was told it was not allowed. I am proud of my service as a military policewoman from the vietnam era and just want to be able to prove that I am a veteran when asked. I have been embarrassed when asked for proof and all I have is my old torn DD Form 214. Can anyone help? The military was good to me and I got my first house on a VA loan, became a federal agent and retired and live in Aiken. Can't believe the bureaucracy I have encountered. Thanks!
