Sanford to be
‘roasted’ for Scouts
Gov. Mark Sanford will get a ribbing for a good cause this
week.
The Indian Waters Council, Boy Scouts of America, will “roast”
the governor at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
This is the third year for the roast, according to council
spokeswoman Kristen Gilliam. Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott was
roasted the first year; last year it was Mayor Bob Coble.
A few of this year’s roasters are Tom Davis, co-chief of staff
for Sanford; Will Folks, the governor’s press secretary; David
Wilkins, speaker of the state House of Representatives; and James
Smith, the House minority leader.
During the past two years, the Boy Scouts have raised about
$25,000 during these evenings of “lighthearted fun,” Gilliam said.
Fittingly, a barbecue dinner will be served during the roast.
The event will be at the Jamil Temple at 206 Jamil Road, off
I-26. Tickets are $100 per person or $800 for a full table of eight.
