(Columbia-AP) June 1, 2005 -
South Carolina Democrats have praised lawmakers for
overriding Governor Marks Sanford's state budget vetoes.
Manning Senator John Land says the General Assembly
had a good session despite a lack of leadership from the
Governor.
Sanford vetoed more than $28 million from public
college budgets. He also proposed cutting $1 million
from the Department of Education for testing. Those were
overridden along with most of his more than 100 vetoes.
Sanford spokesman Will Folks says the governor's
vetoes show fiscal responsibility.
