Dear Governor Haley,
  Our son, Russ Zahler, a freshman at Swansea Freshman Academy, has been accepted into the People to People program as a student ambassador to Australia June 12 - July 1, 2014.  Not only will he visit the continent to see iconic scenes such as the Sydney Opera House and the Great Barrier Reef (of which he gets to snorkel!), but he will also be able to attend school there, live with a host family, visit the Aboriginals, participate in a community service project, and so much more.    

  Unfortunately, we are required to raise the money for him to attend this journey. The purpose of this email is to ask you for your sponsorship.  We have to raise approximately $9,000 for this educational adventure; about $7,000 of it is for the trip itself, along with airport fees, and insurance, as well as money to cover the cost of the visa and a little to spend.  Would you consider sponsoring him?  We, as a family, know how important education is to you, and this is literally an educational (and personal) adventure of a lifetime.   We, as a family, thank you so much for your supporting Russ in this opportunity.  We have no doubt that he will come back to the States, and in particular South Carolina, with a new outlook on life because of the learning that will take place.
