Property tax panel plans hearing at Spartanburg Tech

The state House's ad-hoc property tax committee will hold a public hearing from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Spartanburg Technical College. The hearing will be held in the school's Tracy J. Gaines Learning Resource Center auditorium.

House Speaker Bobby Harrell appointed the 21-member committee to examine the state's property tax system and how changes would affect homeowners, businesses, state and local governments, the state's revenues and economic development efforts.

The committee has been tasked to prepare recommendations and legislation in time for the 2006 session, which begins in January.
