| (Columbia) - South Carolina officials are
keeping watch on another tropical system churning in the Atlantic as
Hurricane Frances spins ashore in Florida. Hurricane Ivan reached hurricane intensity Sunday morning. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 115 miles per hour. The National Hurricane Center expects Ivan to strengthen within the next 24 hours. Ivan is moving west near 21 miles per hour and is less than 1,300 miles east-southeast of the Lesser Antilles. It is expected to approach the islands of the southeastern Caribbean by Tuesday heading west-northwest. |
