Fort Mill Republican Rep. Becky Richardson will find out Wednesday if her legislative peers elect her to one of three state commissioner jobs with the S.C. Employment Security Commission.

Both houses of the S.C. General Assembly are set to vote on the issue at noon Wednesday, according to the S.C. House of Representa-tives clerk's office. Richardson, who has represented District 48 in the S.C. House for 13 years, would take over July 1 if she gets the nod.

There are four candidates for three commissioner jobs. One of the incumbent commissioners, Carole C. Wells, is a candidate for the 4th District Congressional seat, so she is not seeking re-election. The other incumbents are chairman J. William McLeod and McKinley Washington Jr. The fourth candidate is current S.C. House Rep. Becky Martin of Anderson.

Non-chair Employment Security Commissioners make $96,767 per year. Richardson makes $10,400 per year as a legislator.

No special election would be needed to fill her seat if she does win because the Legislative session ends in June and all House seats are up for election in November.

Richardson's husband, Dick, said he might run for the seat if his wife wins. Rock Hill developer Ralph Norman has also formed an exploratory committee for the seat.
