Subject: Week of July 31

My thoughts on a question that I am often asked…and a question that people are sometimes afraid to ask.

Yes, there is an election in November. No, I do not spend much time dwelling on it. I currently have a job and I have plenty on my plate.

It is an honor to serve this state and a privilege to serve with the outstanding employees of SCDC. It is also my duty to give my best and full attention to the tasks presently before me. My father and my grandfather taught and modeled this and I have approached every job that I have held, from pouring concrete to practicing law, with this philosophy. I hope that you will join me in focusing on those things that are set before us.

As a follow-up to my last email, a single recent incident of lost keys cost the agency $47,000. It should go without saying that such carelessness should result in disciplinary action. That money would have been put to better use.

The Faith Based ATU at Watkins held its first graduation today. The program offers a great opportunity for inmates and a great value for taxpayers. Thanks to Sandy Barrett, Kecia Perry and to all of those who worked so hard to make this a reality.

Have a safe week.
