WHAT IT WOULD
DO
Highlights of Gov. Mark Sanford’s tuition tax credit plan, dubbed
“Put Parents in Charge” by its supporters:
• Parents with taxable incomes of
$75,000 or less could take an annual tax credit of up to 80 percent
of about $4,000 per pupil the state spends in public schools.
• The money could be used for
private school tuition, costs associated with transferring to a
different public school, or some expenses for home schooling.
• Individuals or corporations
could take a tax credit for donating to private school
scholarships.
• The credit could be taken
against income taxes or insurance premium taxes or license fees. |
