Ways & Means bill would add fines for aggressive drivers

(Columbia-AP) March 31, 2004 -- The House Ways and Means Committee passed a bill Wednesday that would add a $10 surcharge to aggressive driving traffic convictions. The money would pay for a program to prevent brain injuries.

Aggressive driving includes driving more than ten miles per hour above the speed limit, reckless driving and ignoring traffic signs.

Money from the Traumatic Brain Injury Trust Fund would be used by organizations that target prevention of either aggressive driving or traumatic brain injury.

The bill now heads to the House floor for debate.
