reside in Laurens County. Yet I live on Lake Greenwood. This past weekend
there was an incident where 2 men were in a boat on the lake and were
shooting at fish with a rifle. The bullets ricocheted off the water and
were flying thru my yard. We actually heard one whistle as it went past
us. I called 911 to request assistance. I t was answered by Laurens county
911 service. I was then transferred to DNR. I explained the situation to
them and they advised me that they were tied up and could not come at that
time. Yet they asked me to go back outside and attempt to get the boat
numbers so they could follow up later. Mind you outside where bullets were
ricocheting all over my yard. Laurens county sheriff's department did
come and attempted to call to the boaters from shore. Once the boaters saw
and heard him, they fled. Obviously the deputy could not pursue because
they have yet to be trained to walk on water nor is the police car a
floatation device. He did attempt to drive further up the lake to see them
better and get as much information as he could. He then called me later to
advise his efforts and that he gave the info to DNR. He also advised me
since I had no property damage and no one was shot there was nothing he
could do because the lake is Greenwood county. DNR never contacted us
or arrived on scene. We are very dissatisfied about this. I pay state and
local taxes. Our county has one of the highest tax rates in the state. Yet
I cannot receive any true assistance in an emergency because of county
lines and interdepartmental lines. I have called DNR previously due to
problems on the lake with bow hunters. They fish by our house after 10:00
pm with spot lights shining in our home, their music turned up loud,
generator running, drunk, and yelling. Yet DNR tells me it is legal to do
so. I would have to contact the sheriff's office to complain about the
disturbance. Yet again the deputies cannot walk on water and the cars do
not float. Where is my assistance?
Sincerely Andrea
