Considering SC Roads and Highways... Just thinking - 'what if scenarios' for South Carolina from a resident here since 1945. How many out of state visitors drive into and thru South Carolina? How many of us drive thru other states and help those states with their tax revenue? It is time to let visitors to our state help generate SC revenue. Would visitors to SC need to buy gas for their vehicle? Probably. Would that help SC taxpayers? Now, if the South Carolina gas tax could be increased by five cents per gallon, each visitor traveling into and through SC would be helping us with the expense of repairing our roads and highways by paying this minimum gas tax hike. Yes, we all would be paying a little more tax, but with visitors helping it could improve our roads considerably. Our vehicles would last longer on better road surfaces and that could save us repair costs. Do you think this small increase in gas tax that visitors pay and add to our revenue would benefit the quality of our roads and highways? How many of us would save vehicle repair costs with much improved roads and highways? Reading complaints about increasing our gas tax, it seems the benefits of increasing tax a small amount would improve roads and our vehicles. Motorist complain about the poor roads daily, so why is this not top priority for us? Joel Newton 864-654-7254 202 Blue Ridge Dr. Clemson, SC 29631
