Charleston SC 29492 mikedubak@aol.com 317-501-2207 Dear Gov. Nikki Haley, I am writing to you in regards to Clements Ferry road. During the time I have used Clements Ferry Road I have seen daily issues with it. A Facebook page (Clements Ferry Residents for Safer Roads) has been started to document and disseminate information about the issues that we as a community face daily. Please join to see first hand accounts. The amount of unsafe driving that occurs daily on this road is staggering. It has become the Wild West. One major issue we have is Clements Ferry Road's center lane. During heavy traffic times drivers will decide it is better to use the center lane to bypass other cars that are waiting. It's not just a once in a while thing. This happens often. The drivers will do 30 miles per hour and faster. People often will pass in "No Passing Zones" as well. Additionally, I'll mention the speeding. It has gotten out of hand, dangerous, and frankly scary. Some residents won't even let their teenage drivers use the road. The Berkeley County Sheriff's Deputy assigned to our area simply cannot keep up. He not only responds to disturbances but also the road issues. It is frankly, too much for one department to do. We need more state, county, and city patrols. I am asking for help. Our road is unsafe. We are aware that road widening is in process; however, the completion is possibly over a decade away! In that time, community growth is happening at a staggering pace as new neighborhoods are in process. Often times we are unable to leave our neighborhoods due to the congestion, without hour long waits in traffic. We cannot wait that long! There are things that can be done now to help us before more people are injured. We need more police (state, county, and city), traffic signals, speed limits reviewed, and possibly barricades for portions of the center turn lane. Some of these things can be done in short order and at a minimal cost. Please, please, please help us. Sincerely, Michael A. Dubak 104.10.78.31
