Rock Hill lawyer Jack Kimball was a
good choice to serve as York County's new master-in-equity judge.
Kimball was tapped last week by Gov. Mark Sanford to replace J.
Buford Grier who is stepping down. Grier is the only judge to hold
the position in York County since it was created in 1991.
Kimball, a Rock Hill native, has practiced law for 32 years,
specializing for the past 25 year in land-use law related to issues
such as construction, zoning and contracts. That experience should
serve him well in his new post, which often adjudicates land-use
cases.
Candidates for the judgeship are recommended to the governor by
the county legislative delegation. Kimball was the only official
candidate to be recommended.
Kimbell's significant experience as a practicing attorney as well
as his service on the ethics advisory committee, the commercial and
consumer law committee and the alternative dispute resolution
committee for the S.C. Bar Association make him well qualified for
this position. Congratulations to him.
In summary
Kimball will replace J. Buford Grier, who has held the post
since 1991.
