Secondly, I want to let you know how happy I am with you as Governor of our beloved state. You are doing a wonderful job! I am going to try to make this letter as brief as possible, because I am sure you have more important items you are currently dealing with. My name is Jason Christopher Turner. I am from Easley, SC. I am actually wiring this letter on behalf of my wife, Olivia Marie Turner - also from Easley. She has no idea I am doing this, but I feel what I have to say is important and needs to be said. So, we both have degrees from Clemson University. Olivia is currently a teacher at West End Elementary school in Easley, SC and has spent the majority of her sixteen year career in Title I schools. I believe her to be one of the best and brightest teachers we have, not only in our district, but in our entire state - as I believe her students' standardized test scores would demonstrate. Olivia is a special woman. When she graduated Clemson in 2000, she started teaching immediately. After her first year teaching third grade in a suburban school in Rock Hill, she chose to work in a Title I school for the next fourteen years in Greenville County. Furthermore, for the past two years, she has chosen to teach special education- helping the kids who need it the most. All of which is by choice. By choice, to help children. We found out several years ago that the South Carolina Student Loan Corporation was offering loan forgiveness to students who meet certain criteria. I believe part of the criteria for forgiveness was to work at a Title I school and/or teach in a critical needs area for at least five years. Well, Olivia meets and exceeds all of the criteria except for one thing- she had to have started college after 1998. Olivia started Clemson in 1995; therefore, she is not eligible for the forgiveness program. My hope is, as a result of this letter, that you could assist Olivia in possibly obtaining forgiveness for the balance of her student loan debt. (Seventy percent of the debt has already been paid back, which was originally around $30,000). It would really help our family, but most importantly, it would show an appreciation for someone who chose to help the kids in our state that needed it the most - even when there was no incentive to do so. She chose those kids out of the goodness of her heart. She chooses to do what she does because she loves these kids. She didn't choose that path because of the money or loan forgiveness. She chose it because she knew she could do it, but more importantly, the kids needed her to do it. She has done so much for education in this state. Can you choose to help her? Thank you so much for your time. I have also followed this message up by send a letter. Sincerely, Jason C Turner 105 Kimberly Ln Easley, SC 29642 864-607-2268
