No one alive is "directly" affected by it. It was the symbol of what would have been a separate country had the confederacy won. It is not a direct symbol of slavery, lynchings or anything else the media and activists proclaim. If you are going to take the flag down because it is part of the history of what it say the flag represents, then all historical monuments to the abolish ion of those things should also be removed as they are reminders of that same past.
