I submitted the information requested promptly. Today, I receive notification that I owe over $1800 on taxes claimed on my daughter in college. I submitted the 1098T form and matched exactly what the college stated. I do not understand why I am charged for following what the law states. Is this the way to get money back for a department that cannot keep my information safe - hacked? It is frustrating to abide by the law, send in taxes, and teach my kids right from wrong, just for them to see how corrupt the legislation has become. My daughter pays her loans back every month on time. What kind on Neanderthals are working in the revenue office? In order for me to take care of this, I will have to hire a lawyer which is money out of my pocket. Is this something I can claim next year on taxes? I think not! Would I be better off not claiming taxes? Probably. Should you decide to contact (which I doubt will happen), I can be reached at 864-967-0966.
