My wife and I however, have left your state in no small part because of the addiction it, and your government in it, have to a malignant past. I am compelled to write now, in face of this weeks tragic events, to add my voice to those of many others who feel the proud waving of a relic and symbol of a way of life based on the enslavement of others is profoundly misguided. For there to be any hint of celebrating formally institutionalized racism when it so obviously persists in so many pernicious ways to this day, is unethical and added to the loss of a physician from your state. When asked about this by a CBS newscaster you sidestepped the question saying this was not the time to have a conversation about policy. However, what better time to take a stand against this icon of the very sentiment that led to this shooting. Very disappointing.
