SC Beekeepers Mark Calendar for Summer Meeting

CLEMSON---The time is now to make arrangements to attend the summer meeting of the SC Beekeepers Association to be held on July 11-13, 2002 at the Poole Agricultural Building Auditorium, Clemson University in Clemson, SC.

Meeting registration at the door will begin at 12 noon on Thursday, July 11, and the meeting will end at noon on Saturday, July 13. Registration fee for association members is $3 ($5 for family) and for non-members is $8.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday with an introductory beekeeping short course. Dr. David De Jong, Professor of Genetics and Evolution at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, will be the featured speaker. Dr. De Jong will give presentations on the Africanized Honeybee, Varroa Mites, and Hive Medicinal Products used in Brazil. He will also lead in an afternoon workshop further discussing these topics. Other speakers will give presentations and workshops that are of much interest to beekeepers or anyone interested in honeybees.

Friday evening activities include a chicken barbecue dinner ($6/plate), horseshoe pitching contest and a tall tales contest.
