These townhomes were built in 1984 and have never flooded like this. The creek has come over the banks before, but not into the homes. On October 4, 2014 we experienced a catastrophe and were very happy to find that Governor Haley declared our Greenwood County. Since then, the creek has come over the banks twice more and we are fearful. As a community, we are unable to sleep when it rains hard. We are unable to concentrate on other priorities because all we can think about is whether or not our homes are going to flood again. The City and County of Greenwood have been very compassionate and have offered assistance by way of sandbags. As I'm sure you are aware, sandbags are not going to help with flood water unless we have them stacked high and all the way around our homes, not just at the front door. We have heard multiple scenarios of why things have changed in our area and this flooding has started. The main one of those scenarios is Rocky Creek is full of silt and debris that needs to be removed. It is my understanding that the City and County need State and EPA approval in order to clean the creek. Our plea to the Governor is to help us get this request approved and have the creek cleaned of the debris before this happens again. The residence of Fox Hollow are in dire need of action by the State of South Carolina, the City of Greenwood, and the County of Greenwood. We cannot continue to live like this. We are suffering mentally from fear every single time the forecast calls for rain. Our children should be excited to see and want to play in the rain. Instead, they are looking out the windows in the middle of the night when the rain is pouring. They are asking their parents about being evacuated. These are things that no person should have to live in fear of, but especially our children. Governor Nikki Haley, please help us to get this issue resolved and get our lives back! Sincerely, Fox Hollow Townhouse Community, Greenwood, SC
