Hello I have a serious problem with the Department of Social Services, I have been paying child support for many years, for a child that I thought was my son. This child is 15 years old and his mother informed a mutual friend that I was paying child support ($84 weekly) for a child that was not mine, so I performed a DNA test to find out in fact that I was no relations to this child. I immediately contacted the Clerk of Court, and they informed me that it was a DSS case. I then contacted DSS and they told me to fax over the DNA results and a sign statement why I want the child support stopped, so I did so. Weeks went by and I had not heard for DSS, mean while I was calling every week, and they informed me that they were reviewing my case. Finally I called and talk to someone and he stated that he was a lawyer for DSS and that there was nothing that they could do and they were going to continue to take the $84 dollars out of my check every week. This is not right, I am being forced to take care of a child that is not mine, meanwhile my family at home has to suffer. I only make $10 per hour and I have to work overtime just to make ends meet at my home, and I don't agree with just giving money away to a woman who was dishonest and thinks that its all fun and games. I was looking into getting a lawyer to help me, but every lawyer that I spoke to wants $1500 upfront, and I just don't have that type of money. Is there anyway I can get so assistant, I need help with this matter. I am a hard working man just trying to provide for my family.
