State officials are holding a contest to replace the standard-issue “Smiling Faces, Beautiful Places” license plates. Here are the guidelines:
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Any professional or aspiring artist who is a resident of South Carolina can participate.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?
Develop a design for the standard plate. The design must promote the quality of life in South Carolina. Specifications will be posted at http://www.sc.gov/. Designs can be submitted at the same Web site.
All submissions become state property and may be used for promotional purposes.
CAN I SUBMIT MORE THAN ONE DESIGN?
Yes. There is no limit to the number of designs an individual can submit, as long as all designs meet the required specifications and are submitted separately.
WHEN DO I NEED TO SUBMIT MY DESIGN?
Designs can be submitted from Nov. 1 through Jan. 31. Designs submitted late will be ineligible for consideration.
HOW WILL A WINNER BE CHOSEN?
A panel of judges from state agencies and professional organizations will narrow the submissions to a list of three finalists, using the following criteria:
• Reflects a positive aspect of life in South Carolina
• Meets design and technical specifications
• Aesthetic quality (visually appealing)
• Promotes South Carolina as a destination for visitors
