(Columbia-AP) Jan. 8, 2004 - Governor Mark Sanford
will release his proposed state budget for the coming
year Thursday afternoon.
Legislators said Wednesday they will meet with the
governor Thursday morning for a briefing on his first
budget proposal.
Sanford and lawmakers face a $350 million dollar gap
between expected revenues and the amount of money needed
to keep existing programs
running.
Sanford's
plan is expected to include a variety of changes in
state government. Those range from selling parts of the
state's automobile fleet to reorganizing the way state
government operates.
The spending plan is expected to be less than $5
billion.
