 SCPA Wants Open Cabinet Meetings
(Columbia-AP) -- Members of the South Carolina Press Association are set to vote on a resolution today asking Governor Mark Sanford to hold Cabinet meetings in public.

The association says the state Freedom of Information Act requires the meetings to be open.

The resolution is in response to Sanford's first Cabinet meeting that was held behind closed doors earlier this month.

Sanford says the closed meetings allow Cabinet members to speak freely about many issues without concern about the media listening. But the
association says Sanford's action sends a negative message about how to conduct the public's business in the open.

The association says it could pursue legal action if Sanford's Cabinet meetings continue to be held behind closed doors.
