Subject: Proclamation for April- Child Abuse Prevention Month and Children's Advocacy Day
Importance: High
Good afternoon,
I am writing to request our Governor’s proclamation of Child Abuse Prevention month (April) and Children’s Advocacy Day (April 9, 2013)
Here is some sample language to be used for Child Abuse Prevention Month:
WHEREAS, children deserve to be safe and free from harm in their homes,
schools, and communities; and
WHEREAS, child maltreatment, including neglect, physical abuse, sexual
abuse, and emotional abuse, is harm caused to a child by a
parent, caretaker, or other person responsible for that child’s
safety; and
WHEREAS, tragically, children throughout South Carolina and the nation
continue to fall victim to abuse and neglect; and
WHEREAS, the annual observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month is
designed to educate our citizens about the devastating effects of
child abuse, while empowering and encouraging people to get
involved; and
WHEREAS, prevention work in our great state reminds us of
the importance of treating our children with love and respect
while highlighting the ways in which all of us can help ensure a
life free from harm for our children.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Nikki R. Haley, Governor of the Great State of South
Carolina, do hereby proclaim April 2013 as
CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH
throughout the state and encourage all South Carolinians to work together to
put an end to child abuse and neglect.
Sample language for Children’s Advocacy Day 2013:
Whereas, in 2012, children's advocacy centers around the State served an estimated 7,211 child victims of abuse, providing victim advocacy, treatment and support to these children and their families. Of these 7,211 children, almost forty percent were between
the ages of six and twelve, and nearly as many were between the ages of newborn and six years old; and
Whereas, although neglect is the most common form of child maltreatment, victims also suffer year after year from physical abuse, sexual abuse, and psychological maltreatment; and
Whereas, children's advocacy centers seek to model, promote, and deliver excellence in best practice to child-abuse response and prevention through service, education, and leadership;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Nikki R. Haley, Governor of the Great State of South
Carolina, do hereby proclaim April 9, 2013 as Children’s Advocacy Day.
Please let me know if you need anything else or if I can be of any further assistance. Thank you for your support of child victims in South Carolina!
