Dear Governor Haley,

 

Congratulations on your nomination to be the next U.N. ambassador. Let us take a moment to acknowledge all the sacrifices you have had to make in order for this to happen: 

 

    You've had to deny your heritage as a Sikh, a soldier saint, for the comfort of Christian America.

    You've had to adopt anti-immigrant policies as the child of immigrants for the comfort of xenophobic America.  

    You've had to adopt the myth of the model minority as a tool to uphold anti-black racism for the comfort of White America.

    You've had to adopt anti-LGBTQ+ policies for the comfort of homophobic and transphobic America.

    You've had to condone hate speech and misogyny in order to progress in your career.

    You've had to deny climate change and surrender your intelligence in the name of corporate interests.

    You've had to sacrifice your humanity. 


That's a lot to sacrifice. Now that you are about to assume another position of power, I urge you to use it to reclaim your humanity. Be the voice for the voiceless and stand up against oppression.
