I am writing to you because I once thought that Republicans did not care about black folks. You changed my mind when one of my friends, Myra Singleton Quarrels, Thompson was murdered and you lead the fight for the Confederate Flag to be removed. That is why I trust you with this complaint. I am qualified to work as a Teacher's Aid for Charleston County Schools. I have a BA from Rutgers University, plus an additional 130 plus credit hours from The College of Charleston. I applied for at least 60 positions and did not get one interview. I complained to a Ms. Lyons in Human Resources more than once. For some reason I am being discriminated against.I am seeking legal assistance. I worked successfully as a Substitute Teacher, and I want Charleston County School District to tell me to my face why they have denied me an opportunity to become a permanent employee. I have committed no crimes. Suing them for money is not the point. This is an injustice that I am going to fight against. Charleston is my my home. I grew up on the East Side and earning my degree took a lot of sacrifice and effort. I am am proud that I was raised by a woman who was illiterate and still I succeed in education. Education is important to me. People from other states come to Charleston and live well, while people who grew up here are forced to work for minimum pay even when qualified for better paying jobs. This is not fair. Respectfully, Terri Mae Owens
