Pleasant SC 29464 janlandry14@gmail.com GUNS Gun Sense is Needed 108.210.49.18 I am deeply concerned about the continued commitment to liberalizing gun laws in South Carolina. This is not a commitment to 2nd amendment rights. This is playing to a very dangerous "fringe" element in our state. The Constitution of the US allows for a "well-regulated militia" -- not unfettered gun rights for individuals anywhere, any time. I strongly believe it is the government's -- local, state and federal -- solemn duty and responsibility to protect its citizens from harm to the best of its abilities and to the fullest extent of its powers. It is not even close to arguable that liberalized, expanded gun access is safe for the people. The numbers, the studies on domestic abuse and suicide, the opinions of the military and responsible gun owners, and the experiences of other countries make that abundantly clear. It is time to stand with those who have the safety of those who live, work and visit our state and country as a number 1 concern and goal. Please reconsider your willingness to be manipulated by right wing gun extremists and join those of us who believe in rational, intelligent gun law reform.
