Senate confirms new DNR Board member
The South Carolina Senate recently confirmed a new member to the S.C. Natural Resources Board, the policy making body of the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Gov. Nikki Haley appointed Mr. D. Glenn McFadden as the new board member representing the 5th Congressional District.
Mr. McFadden of Fort Lawn joined Comporium in 1972 and now has responsibility for operations of Comporium’s telecommunications business, including call services, long distance, and Comporium’s North Carolina telecommunications operations. In addition, he is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair functions for the company’s cable television operations. Currently he has direct bottom line responsibility for assets under management of $275 million and revenue of over $200 million per year. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was the 2006 chair of the York County Regional Chamber of Commerce. He is chairman of the Lewisville High School Scholarship Fund, a member of the Rock Hill Rotary Club, and a member of the board of visitors at the University of South Carolina-Lancaster.
He is also an avid outdoorsman going all the way back to his childhood on the farm. When he wasn't milking cows or working cotton, he was hunting and fishing or camping near the creeks and fields near his home. He enjoys wood carving of waterfowl, painting, knife making as well as mountain climbing and hiking. He has two daughters and currently lives on the family farm with his wife JoAnn.
"Mr. McFadden is a multitalented businessman and a skilled outdoorsman," said agency director Alvin Taylor. "His considerable talents will help DNR continue to serve the state of South Carolina and protect and enhance our natural resources heritage."
The Natural Resources Board meets monthly and sets policy for the S.C. Department of Natural Resources. The DNR is composed of five divisions: Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries, Land, Water and Conservation, Law Enforcement, Outreach and Support Services and the Marine Resources Division, based in Charleston.
