I'm writing to you again for my brother who has been incarcerated for over 22 years on bogus charges because a poor black family couldn't afford a lawyer so he was given a court appointed lawyer. I was with my brother when he was allegedly accused of assaulting our neighbor, but the lawyer convoked my mom that accepting a 3 yr plea was in his best interest. My brother should've been released from prison years ago, but because SC Records Department have been altering my brother's sentences and good time, he is still being incarcerated. My brother has written several request to staff members notifying them of the inaccuracies and they claim the policy either changed or the information has been archived and isn't retrievable. My brother has written the SCDC Prison Director numerous times about his paperwork being altered as well as provided the documentations and has never received a response from the Prison Director. He's asked to speak with an Investigator and again, nothing. I've paid an attorney who we thought was assisting my brother $1000 for him to file the paperwork with the Courts to show my brother sentence and good time was altered, but little did we know, that lawyer was working with the State and took my money and rendered no service. I deployed to Afghanistan after paying the lawyer so was unable to file a complaint with the Bar Association. There is too much of a cover up on my brother case and I'm afraid that if we don't intervene, my brother will lose faith and go into a state of helplessness and depression. He has been in lock up for over 10 years and when I asked why, the response is that he's doing well and they don't want him to get into trouble. My brother's constitutional rights are being taken away from him. We have not been able to visit with my brother in years. I love my country and have served honorably in the US Army for over 19 years. I've never complained about deploying to Afghanistan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, or Kuwait because its the oath I took to defend my country when my country asked me to leave my infant child. My brother should not be treated like an animal and have his rights withdrawn. I beg of you to intervene and send an Investigator to Kirkland Correctional Institution in Columbia to bring justice for my brother Frederick Myers.
