Hootie and Blowfish jump on Edwards bandwagon

COLUMBIA -- Hootie and the Blowfish has
endorsed Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards, who hails from the state
where the rock band got its start.Members of the band, who are University of
South Carolina alumni, will join Edwards today when he officially files for the
South Carolina Democratic primary.Edwards, who stresses on the campaign trail
that he is the son of a South Carolina mill worker from Seneca, is a North
Carolina senator."South Carolina's band is coming out for South Carolina's
candidate," Edwards' spokeswoman Jenni Engebretsen said.The band's attorney,
Richard "Gus" Gusler, said the rock group is planning a performance in South
Carolina before the state's primary on Feb. 3.During the mid-1990s, Hootie and
the Blowfish became one of the biggest pop acts in America, selling nearly 20
million copies of three CD releases.The band's 1994 album, "Cracked Rear View,"
was the biggest-selling debut ever, selling close to 16 million copies before
being dethroned by Alanis Morrisette's "Jagged Little Pill."
