Haley: I am a freelance writer working for Lexington Life Magazine, and for my next article, I have been assigned to research the Carolina Water Service (CWS) wastewater treatment facility (located near I-20 in Laurel Meadows Subdivision in Lexington County) and its contamination of the Lower Saluda River. According to records on the Public Service Commission's website, Governor's Grant is a customer of CWS, and Lexington County's online tax records show that your family has owned property in this neighborhood since 1999. Because of this and the contamination problems pertaining to CWS, I have a few questions for you regarding this issue: - Are you aware that, according to public records on the EPA's online website ECHO, Carolina Water Service has frequently been ranked as "noncompliance" and is, therefore, depositing contaminated effluent from its customers into the lower Saluda? - Would you be willing to make a statement regarding this issue? - Would you consider addressing this issue? If so, how would you do this? Could you empower DHEC to take serious action with an executive order? You may call 803.926.5841 to speak with me personally or email a response to mkhthomas@aol.com at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely yours, Marilyn Thomas Freelance Writer
