I have been informed that I can / will lose my job if I were to foster a child. I understand that a child in the county I work can be a conflict of interest. Yet I am willing to foster children outside of the county in which I am employed, I am willing to provided emergency placement, respite care - yet my employer says that is all prohibited. I have not been provided a policy, statue or law that prohibits me from fostering. GAL has a "best practice" which prohibits fostering due to conflict of interest, but policy provides Department of Admin employees FLMA for placement of a foster or adoptive child. Due to the drastic shortage in foster homes in SC I can not see how it is acceptable for a state agency to completely prohibit me from fostering in addition to threating my job with them. Meanwhile DSS, has policy in place allowing their employees to foster or adopt. Feel free to contact me regarding this matter by phone or email. 70.101.12.8
