Frances Fernandez has a love affair with winter.

"I love cold weather," she said, sitting in front of a warm fire with a snow scene captured in a painting behind her.

"There's something cozy about it being cold outside and warm inside," she said.

Her husband, Mike Fernandez, said he likes warm weather but is enjoying Saturday's taste of winter.

Both said they would like that blanket of white on their yard to be more snow and less ice.

"If it's snow, I get out in it," Frances said. "But this is a little icier."

That same ice kept many from leaving their homes Saturday.

For Ross and Jessica Clements, the day was supposed to be spent house-hunting, but warnings to stay off the roads kept them at home.

"We didn't want to get out in this weather," Jessica said.

She said they were looking at homes online instead, enjoying hot cocoa and playing with their dog, Bo, whom they brought inside after he did a couple of laps in the snow.

Ross said they enjoyed the snow but were ready for warm weather. He said the two didn't make any grocery runs to stock up like many in the area but were still enjoying their warm breakfast of waffles.

Other Greenville residents, like Grant and Brennan Specia, made sure to go by the grocery store before the wintry mix started falling.

Brennan said their 8-year-old son, David, woke them up at 7:30 a.m., ready for a day of sledding.

The family stayed inside, aside from a few trips to play in the snow.

"The kids have been so eager for the snow," Brennan said of David and their daughter, 11-year-old Bergen.

Stan and Diane Morris weren't as eager for the winter ice and snow, having to cancel their plans to shop and see friends.

"We were going to drive to Lander and go by the antique stores," Stan said. Instead, the two worked on filing their income tax.

And Frances Fernandez had to change her usual plans of doing "Saturday things" like shopping and running errands after she's had a week of work changed because of the weather, too.

But she said she was just happy to see the snow come and to spend the day sitting in front of the fire, reading and eating soup.

"I had hoped it would snow," Fernandez said. "I don't want it to go away."
