university research facility. Leaders decide it will be a graduate
education, research and development center for racing teams and
carmakers.
• ; September 2002: Gov.
Jim Hodges and Clemson officials announce plans for a $100 million
automotive research park in Greenville to be developed by Clifford
Rosen.
• ; January 2003: After
taking office, Gov. Mark Sanford calls for a 60-day review of the
project, drawing criticism from Upstate leaders.
• ; Wednesday: Sanford
announces a deal he says saves taxpayers millions of dollars and
