Governor Haley, congratulations on your tentative selection as United States Ambassador to the United Nations.  I see you were born in 1972, the year I graduated from Ohio University and married my wife of 44 years.  That is appropriate, since my generation demanded a chance to use its youthful energy back in the 1970's.  You'll do great.
My concern?  This is the first time in years that I have been proud of my Governor.  I have only lived in SC for 3 years, spending the previous 23 years "up north" in NC.  I am so ashamed of the way that state's government is moving.
My concern is that now a 69-year-old Donald Trump endorser will become our Governor.  I will give the Lt Gov my support as long as he deserves it, but I am worried.
I do hope that your appointment is not a short-lived assignment with the only real goal being to get another old white man into the Governor's seat.  And I say that as an old (66) white man.
I hope that strong leaders of both parties can guide the country through this stretch without letting our long-simmering hatreds and fears turn our country in a dark direction.
You have been a great Governor who showed empathy and good judgement, something which every state deserves.  SC has been lucky to have you.
