COLUMBIA, S.C. - Democratic presidential
candidate Sen. Joe Lieberman hit the airwaves Monday in South
Carolina and at least one other state with a Feb. 3 primary contest,
hoping to gain votes and raise the visibility of his campaign.
The Connecticut senator's campaign would not say how much he's
spending on the ads in South Carolina and Oklahoma, but said they'll
spend nearly a million a week in those states.
Lieberman's ads come weeks after other campaigns have already
aired ads in South Carolina.
Among the nine candidates, Seneca native and North Carolina Sen.
John Edwards has been on the air the longest in the Palmetto state.
Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, Missouri Rep. Dick Gephardt and
retired Gen. Wesley Clark also have aired ads.
Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts is scrambling for cash for his
campaign and hasn't been on the air so far. Neither have the Rev. Al
Sharpton, former ambassador Carol Moseley Braun or Ohio Rep. Dennis
Kucinich.
"I would have thought they would all be on the air by now," said
Brent Lane, advertising general sales manager for WIS TV-10 in
Columbia. "We're inside the political window," he said.
