My 20 year old granddaughter has been told to report for work at a clothing store in Summerville, even as late as Friday, October 7th., the day Hurricane Matthew. As a conscientious employee, she doesn't want (can't afford)to risk losing her job, her income (then her apartment)by disobeying this demand from her employer. And yet, the store manager, and apparently the corporate office in Massachusetts, has informed her that the store will be open, and thus, she must report to work. This isn't a gas service station or a pharmacy that may be needed by residents. Are there no penalties, fines, etc., consequences for companies requiring their employees to disregard a "mandatory evacuation" order by the Governor??
