Dear Governor Haley

I am writing you today in hopes that you will intercede on behalf of
 my great grandson, Caleb Pasanen. Caleb presently resides with his 
biological father, Steven Elliot Britt, in Hammer South Carolina. He
is being held hostage!

Steven has held Caleb hostage since June, 2013.  He picked Caleb up 
for visitation but refused to return him to his family in Lumberton, North Carolina.

I am Caleb's great grandmother.  I was unaware of this turn of events 
until May of 2014.  I myself was battling cancer and was out of touch 
with his mother and stepfather. When I learned what happened I
questioned why he (Steven Britt) was allowed to get away with this 
action no definitive answer was given; however, during my questioning I 
learned that Caleb was not attending school.  And that he was being
physically abused. 

I learned there was nothing I could do concerning who he was living with.  
But I did contact Dillon County DSS Director, Karen English. I went to her 
office to report Caleb's lack of schooling. She dialed Child Care Services 
and gave me the phone to state my concerns, which was the lack of schooling
and physical abuse.

I was told that because I was not a parent I would receive no reports 
concerning  Caleb's  status.

On Sunday January 3, 2016 I spoke with my daughter Melissa Pasanen 
(Caleb's grandmother) and learned that Caleb was still with 
Steven E. Britt and that Caleb is now being padlocked in his bedroom.  
This latest atrocity is most definitely child endangerment.

I am asking (begging) you, Governor Haley,  to look into this situation.  
I think you will agree that DSS has not done their job.  This child 
needs a champion.  Please! Governor Haley, look into this.
