Nikki Haley to get off the fence and let in the Syrian refugees. 66.56.178.54 The following is a message I posted on FB in response to my FB friends who are too scared to take in the Syrian refugees: It is a shame that following 9/11 "if you do xyz then the terrorists win" became a comedy trope because we really need this idea now. If you are scared of helping the people who are fleeing Syria because some of them might be wolves in sheep's clothing due to their proximity to ISIS, then Jihadi John did his job on you. You have let him win. It doesn't matter that he's probably dead, he lives on in your mind affecting your actions. That's all he wanted. Would I put my family's lives in danger to fight ISIS? Yes, unreservedly. That is what thousands of family members of the American military are already doing, have been doing, in a *far* more direct and dangerous way. The very least I can do is stand up to ISIS by supporting refuge for their victims, even if it's scary. That being said I am far more afraid of all the armed to the teeth wackos who are already in our country who have already taken so many American lives on American soil. I'm not against people having guns. I'm against crazy murderous people having guns, and I'm against the idea that there is absolutely nothing we could possibly do to stop that. Many of you have made the valid point that we should be helping our homeless vets first. I agree. That should have already been done long ago. There shouldn't be a single homeless vet in this country. It's strange I haven't seen so many posts about homeless vets before. I for one have been actively helping homeless vets for many years. It is a shame that this crisis is what it takes to bring more attention to their plight. I am a follower of Jesus. It's corny I know, but I do sometimes think what would Jesus do. I'm 100% certain he would not be too scared of ISIS to shelter their victims. We all know what Jesus would do, unreservedly and without hesitation, because he wasn't a coward who bailed on love at the first sign of trouble. He put his own life and the lives of all his friends and family in grave danger at all times while standing up for the needy, the sick and the desperate. That's exactly what he did, and that is *specifically* what he asked you to do. This is your opportunity to be the good Samaritan. Recall the good Samaritan made a dangerous choice to help a stranger. This is your opportunity to demonstrate you were listening in Sunday school and not just going to look like a good guy. It is the time now to show your fruits. It is stunning how quickly terrorism works in turning even the best of us against our principles. It is stunning how quickly and easily their horrific tactics have worked to make us turn on our back on Lady Liberty's creed. That's exactly what these monsters wanted. I don't have many opportunities to fight ISIS. I'm going to do this one small thing: I will not let their fear mongering make me turn away from my principles. I don't think this is particularly noble or brave. I think this is the very least, smallest and ultimately safest thing I could do. To not even do this is a dishonor to those who in fact sacrificed their very lives to fight ISIS and defend our shared principles. It is a dishonor to all those who have lost their lives at the hands ISIS. We are the home of the brave. We can do better than this. When one of these people murders my child, which I am quite certain is not going to happen, I will still believe that taking in Syrian refugees was the right choice. I put my child in *far* more danger driving down the highway for no more noble purpose than going to IKEA, and I want him to always be brave in the face of evil and compassionate to the helpless. I urge Gov. Nikki Haley to get off the fence and agree to provide refuge for Syrian refugees, of course with heavy screening and tracking. This is the very least I can do.
