A Florida developer alleged in a federal lawsuit he completed "virtually all" of his obligations to Clemson University to develop a proposed wind tunnel in Greenville County and was preparing to obtain needed financing when BMW Manufacturing Co. coerced university officials into forcing him out of the project.
In amending a lawsuit he filed against BMW in U.S. District Court in July, developer Cliff Rosen said he was prepared to move ahead with the project once Clemson provided him with a final hourly rate to be used for renting time in the wind tunnel.
His original lawsuit alleged the automaker conspired with Clemson University and state officials to force him out as developer of an automotive research park in Greenville.
BMW "intentionally and without justification" caused Clemson officials to abandon or violate their agreements with him for the development of the motorsports, automotive research and education center, Rosen said in his original lawsuit.
Neither BMW officials nor Clemson President James Barker could be reached for comment Wednesday. Earlier, a BMW spokeswoman had said "the suit was without merit" and the company would "vigorously defend" itself.
