I picked the topic economy yet, this can go under many different topics agriculture, environment, jobs, energy and, more. I'm a big proponet for hot rods, the environment, bettering the lives of people, balanced budget and, low taxes. I know that my Idea won't cure all of the above but, I believe that would put SC as leader in this great nation of ours. The Idea is ethanol, I know I know. It hasn't taken off but, It has in the racing community since it has a high octane and, much cheaper than race gas, guy's are switching over to it. I mean all the big aftermarket carburetor suppliers offer an E-85 version of all the carburetors they offer. It has really taken off in the performance world. South Carolina has a great many farming towns that have basically shriveled up and died since everything has either gone overseas or tobacco being somewhat outlawed by the great intellectual democrats. I live near a few of those towns Loris, Marion, Mullins and, so many more. Wouldn't it be great to get those towns buzzing again becoming vibrant communities. That are contributing to the tax base by creating more jobs, more businesses, more of everything. Think of the trickle down affect this would have. It would start with the farmers needing to plant more corn and grain as the market within the state would be stabilized making it a good investment on their part. The farmers would need more equipment to produce larger quantities of gain and corn. In turn the factory that is building the equipment now needs more workers to meet the demand. The trucking industry would need more drivers to haul the corn and grain as well as the finished product to the buyers. The construction of four strategically placed refineries throughout the state which means more jobs for the tradesmen, more taxpayers. Now you need people to run the refinery and to keep up on the facilities more good well paying jobs, more taxpayers. It would make SC a boom state all the new taxes to roads, health care, education, law enforcement, The sky would be the limit and, I truly believe it. Having all the E-85 the public can handle will basically force most gas station owners to carry E-85. If it hits the market at .99,9/10 per gallon the demand would go thru the roof and thus driving the price up to a livable 1.25 per gallon. It would all depend on how much it would cost to make a gallon that is the bottom line. I do have a few more ideas on energy, jobs, economy and, new technology. How about Solar farms there are plenty of empty fields across the state. We do get our share of sunshine here, wouldn't you say. This would create high tech. jobs and, depending on the size of the solar farm more high skilled tradesmen would be needed for the installation of this equipment. The ports would be busy with all the equipment needed for the solar farms. Even the rail yards would be busy bringing in the equipment. I really think if a massive change like this can get done. this state would have the roar of the lion. There is however a few key things to getting this done, no unions, no out of state workers unless there is no business qualified for the task at hand. If you can keep all of it within the people, businesses and, cities of the state of South Carolina this would be the First lower 48 state to become energy independent from all outside influences.this kind of forward thinking is sustainable and makes for a great economy but, is a win win for all sides especially you. Just think of it? the Governor of the state that has gone green and, the largest surplus as well as, the lowest unemployment rate in all of the united states and, to boot a republican, mostly red state to do it, all of this would solidify your place for a run for the whitehouse. I believe that you would be remmebered as one the greatest governors in SC history and, maybe the US. I bid you good day Madam Governor and, may your mind be opened to a new and, great future for you and, the state of South Carolina. Gary Marrs
