Haley: Dear Governor Haley, Could I make a suggestion on how the Republicans who don't want Donald Trump to be the nominee can/should rationalize and justify picking a candidate other than Trump at the Republican convention - - assuming Trump has close to a majority of delegates, but NOT a majority? I think a very reasonable (and "sellable") approach would be to select the candidate who, according to the major polls at the time of the convention, is in the best position to beat Hillary Clinton in November. An average of the top 3 polls at the time of the convention COULD show that John Kasich would beat Hillary handily, and maybe Cruz and Trump would either barely beat her or lose to her. I think it would then be reasonable to justify that the delegates should move (after the 1st ballot) to the candidate who is best positioned to win - - since the purpose of the convention is to select a WINNING candidate. I have seen a poll or two that shows that John Kasich would beat Hillary by a LOT, and Trump and Cruz would each lose to Hillary. Please check out this web site and look at the most recent poll results (3/3-3/6): http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2016/president/2016_presidential_race.html I have to tell you that I historically have voted Democratic, but I don't want to see another 4-8 years of similar gridlock as the past 7 years. I like John Kasich a lot, and I'd definitely vote for him - - as I think many Democrats would who do not want to see "another Clinton" in the White House. If you agree, could you find a way to get this message out - - via your actions, as well as getting buy-in from people like Karl Rove, Charles Krauthammer, George Will, Bill Kristol, Steve Schmidt, Mark Halperin, Chuck Todd, Stuart Stevens, Erick Erickson, Paul Ryan, and others you may know? If this could evolve (between now and July) into a generally agreed upon "principle of selection" of the nominee at the convention, then this could (hopefully) tamp down the current argument (by Trump people) that the candidate with "the most" delegates should get the nomination. It could also blunt the argument that NOT giving the nomination to Trump is "going against the voice of the voters." In fact, the voice of the voters WILL be used as a selection criteria - - but the "VOICE" will be determined by national polls at the time of the convention. What do you think? Could you please let me know that this message got to you, and give me your feedback. Thank you, and best regards, Dan Hurley Brooklyn Center, Minnesota
